BAD MSG:
BTF Minutes July 21 / 98
ontent-Length: 3293
X-Lines: 90
X-Status: $$$$
X-UID: 0000000576
Status: RO

Attendees: Anders Nordstrom
                Tom Fitzpatrick
                Adam Krolnik
                Karen Pieper
                Stefen Boyd
                Jay Lawrence
                Kurt Baty

Discussed what is top priority moving forward. We still have some errata
and enhancements open but most importantly we have three out of the top
five enhancements unresolved.
We decided that working on the remaining top three (Generate, Re-entrant task
and Configurations) will be our highest priority since these are the ones
requested by most users. If we have time we will address other open issues.
The BNF still needs to be updated but it do not require the attention
of the entire BTF and it can not be finished until the top enhancements are
closed.

Assigned three primes for the isses, responsible for leading discussions and
updating proposals for their issue.

B01 Verilog Generate - Kurt Baty
B04 Re-entrant Tasks - Adam Krolnik
B05 Configurations - Tom Fitzpatrick & Jay Lawrence

It was suggested that Cliff continue his work on the BNF although he was
not on the call agreeing to it.

Configurations:
---------------
General discussion and summary by Jay Lawrence.
Fundamental requirements are -y, -v and `uselib functionality and
no need to edit source RTL files.
Names for objects are missing in Verilog and we need a library structure
independent of file system.
We have two proposals for Configurations, one from Cliff and one from Jay.
ACTION for all: Review proposals and respond to Tom and/or the BTF reflector.

Generate:
---------
A lot of work has been done on Generate by Cliff that is ready to be reviewed.
ACTION for all: Review B01 wording in Cliff's email dated July 14 and send
comments to Kurt. Kurt will then update the proposal.

Re-entrant Tasks:
-----------------
We have agreement on re-entrant tasks we only need to write the LRM wording in
a proposal.
ACTION Anders: Collect existing and passed proposals for re-entrant tasks and send
        to Adam.
ACTION Adam: Write proposal.

<p>Constant Functions:
-------------------
Kurt did send out a proposal for Constant functions that was discussed.
Karen still have some comments about the wording of the proposal.
Do not allow $function calls in constant functions since the simulator is
not running when the constant function is evaluated this includes functions such
as $random which is not even constant. Some discussion if we should allow $display
and just ignore it or report an error.
ACTION Karen: Email Anders with updated paragraphs for the proposal.
ACTION Anders: Write new proposal and send out prior to next call for review and vote.

<p>B13 Mutable parts select:
-------------------------
Rename the proposal to "Indexed Parts Select".
ACTION Adam: Send out an updated proposal based on resent email discussion on the
        reflector.

<p>New Conference Call:
