Good afternoon:
It is unfortunate that people are worried about the abnormal cases.
I remember (reread the mail bucket) the other proposals that want
to specify the index and width separately (with whatever syntactic
marker decided) but only see confusion also.
Consider:
reg [7:0] blue;
reg [0:7] green;
if (blue[3 separator 3] == green [3 separator 3]) ...
// blue[5:3] == green[3:5] ??
// blue[3:1] == green[1:3] ??
// blue[3:1] == green[3:5] ??
// blue[5:3] == green[1:3] ??
One needs to be able to specify the starting bit, the size and the
direction from the starting bit (to the msb or lsb) uniquely and
without regard to the order of the bit definitions. Three pieces
of information need to be encoded in an understandable way.
And we have to agree on a separator with good syntax.
Unfortunately I won't be on monday's conference call - I have gutters
to put up during my vacation.
Send mail on notes of the OVI meeting and any configuration thoughs.
Also, where are structures these days? What do others think about them?
