I consider it unlikely that generates would have a significant impact on
elaboration time, but it is possible. Keeping the approach to resolving
the interactions between defparams and generates simple will help avoid
inefficiencies like the need for multiple passes.
As far as the contradictions that Alec is referring to, they appear to be
related to those interactions. It is possible to recognize that this part
of the proposal is broken without attempting to implement it first.
