<p>Very strange; I do not have draft6 [where could I get it?] but I do
have draft 5 and in there I see in section 3.9 there is a syntax
box (Syntax 3-3) that shows that reals can be initialized with the
 declaration. E.g.

<p>real my_value = 3.1415,
     pi = 3.141592;

<p>Stuart, I hope that we can encourage the VCS folks to not surprise the
users on this one.
