Some thoughts:
For a change, it would be good if everyone was working from the same version.
Is IEEE selling one version or two?
The online PDF is still the bad version.
Does a good version really exist?
If there is and IEEE is selling it, then we need two errata lists,
one which describes the errata in the bad version which are corrected in the good
version,
and a second list which describes the rest of the errata.
Some of the errata in the database have synopsis descriptions which are not clear and
should be improved,
so that we can print a report from the database and know what is being talked about in
each item.
We need to update the database with the errata which appeared in Cliff's famous letter
to IEEE and which are not already in the database.
We need to update the database with errata which were discovered since December 2001,
most of which were not yet entered into the database.
We need to update the database with PLI errata which were discovered until we started
entering them also into
the database, since the database started as a BTF errata list and did not include
PLI errata.
We should have a list of changes made from 1364-1995 to 1364-2001.
We cannot expect either users or developers to read the entire 1364-2001,
mentally remember the entire 1364-1995, and immediately be aware of all differences.
Differences are going to be missed.
The easy part is where we can say that entire sections were changed and have to be
reread,
but in many cases, the changes are a sentence here and there or a small nuance,
and we should point the reader to all significant changes.
The only thing we have now are unofficial presentations by Stuart and Cliff and a few
others.
Finally, I of course am interested to participate in the Errata Task Force.
Thanks,
Shalom
