- Kathy to send datatypes meeting minutes to BTF
Summary:
Minutes from Feb 9, 2004 were accepted. Dennis and Karen and Tom and Alec
abstain. Nobody opposes. Passes.
Steve Dovich spoke about IP protection group progress. The group is waiting
for its reflector to be set up. In the meantime Steve provided the donation
to those who do not have it yet.
Stefen plans to set up the reflectors this week.
Alec spoke about prioritization group progress. Alec and Shalom would
like to prioritize enhancement requests without donations. This is
important because these enhancement requests could affect the
enhancements coming from donations. Alec asked who else would be
interested in participating. Steven Sharp volunteered.
Kathy spoke about datatypes group progress:
- The datatypes group decided to adopt datatype orthogonality
as a fundamental principle. Datatype orthogonality means that
the update semantics of an object and the set of values that
the object can have are independent of one another. The datatype
of an object should not imply a particular object kind, or
vice versa. New datatypes should be available for all kinds
of data objects: parameters, variables, and nets.
- The group is now exploring what datatype orthogonality means for
the datatypes donations, beginning by examining the meaning of
declarative keywords like "reg" and "logic".
- SystemVerilog introduces an interface port. Interfaces do not
have data values in the traditional sense, so for the time being
the datatypes group is not treating an interface as a datatype.
The datatypes group may decide differently later.
Kathy will forward datatypes meeting minutes to the BTF after attendees
have approved them by email. The next scheduled datatypes meeting conflicts
with an Accellera meeting. The datatypes group has a lot to do, and
should not go a month without meeting. The group will attempt to move
the meeting to another day that week to avoid the conflict.
The VSG approved the guidelines that the EGG proposed. EGG is now working
on some BNF extension guidelines that Shalom has proposed. Due to conflicts
with DVCon, the EGG meeting next Monday will likely be canceled. Kathy will
send mail to the EGG group to establish next meeting time.
Next meeting will be March 8, at 10:40 Pacific Time.
