At the P1800 meeting on Monday, the future of the existing BTF work was
decided.
The datatypes subgroup is being moved to P1800, operating under the SV-BC.
It will be open to the existing members from 1364, as well as anyone else
who has an interest in it. The goal will be to get datatypes on nets
specified and included in the first P1800 LRM. Kathy McKinley will continue
to chair the group, and will presumably start organizing it soon.
The IP encryption subgroup is also continuing to operate, but as a separate
task force at the same level as the BTF. Due to time constraints, they
will continue to work on the 1364 standard rather than trying to rework
their efforts for the P1800 standard. Steven Dovich will continue to
chair the group.
The BTF will continue to operate as well. We will continue to work on
enhancement requests that are not covered by P1800. These include
things that fill in gaps in the Verilog-2001 extensions, help bridge
gaps between 1364 and P1800, and possibly other high-priority requests.
It is desirable to produce a new 1364 standard at the same time as the
P1800 standard, so that the P1800 standard can be based on it. This limits
the amount of time we have available to work on enhancements, but should
allow some useful work to be done.
It is expected that the 1364 PAR will be amended to allow enhancements
to be added by the IP encryption subgroup and BTF.
Let me know if you are interested in participating in continued BTF work.
