    A number of the encryption algorithms can be run repeatedly. For
    instance you encrypt the text. Then you take the result and run it
    through the algorithm again to encrypt the result, ... Each one of these
    is a "round" of encryption. DES III (triple DES) is the most well known
    of these.

    The "IV" is the "Initialization Vector". It is a seed for the encryption
    algorithm. Different IVs will result in different clear text for the
    same plain text so between the choice of key and IV you get even better
    protection.
