The C printf() function allows specifying a minimum field
width for integer formats. For example, %5d will print a
decimal number in 5 characters (unless it doesn't fit).
Verilog does not support this capability in its $display
format. However, VCS supports some subset of it. As a
result, we have been asked to support it also. I would
like to propose that this be added to the standard.
