Since we mentioned defparams yesterday, I'd like to give an example how we use
them.
The following description is only approximate.
In our gate-level cell libraries, every cell definition has a parameter called
Xfilter,
which when set to 1, which is default, causes the output of the cell to go to X
if there is a timing violation on the inputs, e.g., in an SDF simulation.
However, sometimes you don't want that behavior,
such as on the first flipflop of a synchronizer.
So we attach a file which is the list of cell instances in which we want to
disable this behavior.
Each line is of the form:
defparam top. ....full hierarchial path ...cell_instance_name.Xfilter = 0 ;
