    It seems to me that Cliff brings up two issues simultaneously, which may be
    confusing.

    The first issue is "why distinguish between nets and variable/regs?"

    Indeed a tool could figure out which is what by their usage, but the
    user would have to aware of the semantic difference if an object is
    written by procedural assigns or by primitives/cont_assigns. The
    advantage of distinguishing between nets and variables is in
    readability and incremental model construction.

    The second issue is "in case we distinguish between nets and variables,
    should nets have more types than the ones they currently have?

    I believe that extending the data types that can be associated to nets
    is valuable and everybody should take a close look at the proposal
    made by Kathy's group.
